While there's a lot of coax around with poor quality shields, cheap connectors, and poorly installed connectors, cause FAR more problems. My rules are to NEVER play cheap with connectors and adapters, to ALWAYS look first at connectors (and adapters), and to build my own cables when possible. I've always had a strong suspicion that someone at Elecraft was playing cheap when the vendor for those cables was chosen.

Poor quality coax shields will show up as excessive coupling of shield current to the inside of the coax, degrading isolation between antennas and increasing RX noise.

That's why I say "in most installations, more connectors usually equal more problems".   Mechanical-electro connectors are the weak link in most all systems.
