G'day, <snipo> I wore the strap all the time. That way, while I'm handling the rig or the board, things are protected. Also, it is way too easy to forget the strap if you only put it on for the times you "need" it. <snipo>
Well, I've never used one and never popped an IC/transistor. All I ever do is make sure I'm not carrying any charge by touching something earthed for a few seconds before extracting the IC or what have you from its anti-static packaging/foam. Served me well enough in a career in telecomms. Who ever bust a 4CX5000A with static anyway? That was the early days!
