Don, While perhaps "obvious," the models you describe are not updates of previous versions in the order as W3FPR pointed out in a subsequent message. Those radios are very different from each other in many aspects, especially performance. Although, each is considered by most to be a top performer in its class.
I am amused by many who add one or more of the new K3S modules to their K3 and then call their radio a K3S. They are not and never will be. An upgraded K3 can approach a K3S, but not quite get there. I hate to start another K4 e-mail chain. It may be too late now. If I were to bet, I would bet the next Elecraft top-of-the-line K? will likely use a newer topology than the K3. However, the K3S is number three on Rob Sherwood's receiver performance list. As Rob has pointed out the last several years, transmitter performance (cleanliness) is where most radios need improvement today. Regardless, when operating Field Day or any multi-multi event, my K3 with updated (correct term in this case) synthesizers is my radio of choice. I have seen how many new radios "collapse" under the strain of other nearby transmitters. At the same time, there are other radios with comparable performance in similar situations. I am anxiously waiting for the Elecraft next iteration, whether or not it's designated K4, to take the lead. 73, Bill, K8TE Hi all, It’s very obvious to me. Elecraft began with a K1, then “updated” to a K2 (which I am building). Then they “updated” to a K3, and all the new mods that go on it. So, it’s very obvious to me, that the new “updated” radio should be called (ready for this?), THE K4 ! It naturally follows with their earlier naming scheme.
