I John I run a remote and have for over 15 years, a lot of that with Amps like the KPA500. I really don't see a need for a surge protector when you have a real 'torroid' transformer.
As for 220VAC switch, I use a 12v relay connected to my RemoteQTH server run by a RPI to turn off the 220AC if I need to. I do do this during the summer in thunderstorm season, but all winter, I never touch it at all. The Amps stays powered by 220VAC. Is there a reason you think you might need one? If you are worried about lightning, it won't help.
