I can give you a scenario  that may make it easier to understand; this presumes you have the sub rx installed.

The DX is staying on one TX frequency, put that in the VFO A, leave it alone.  Have your TX set to split on VFO B.  Go into split RX so you can hear both; using the VFO B to listen to the station that the DX is working now (in your right ear).

Once you determine (by tracking/listening) to the direction the DX is listening (up, down or not) to work the pileup, you put the VFO B on your intended 'attack' point.  At this time, you can hear what is there, plus the DX.  (This is where a bandscope REALLY pays off, MUCH simpler.)

Presuming the DX fades and you need more signal to hear, you turn off split and you're listening only to the DX (VFO A) while VFO B is ready for split TX.

If you're listening split for another reason, you make the frequency you need to hear alone in VFO A by pushing the A/B button, then turn off split, two buttons max.

Is there an easy way when listening split say 7205 and 7065 (7205 in one ear
and 7065 in the other) and then put 2 ears on one frequency or the other
quickly?
