Okay well I tried transmitting at 144.49 from my HT and yep! Sure enough a big orange signal on the PX3 so it seems to be working fine, I guess the 2 meter background noise is so much less than on HF apparently. It is certainly totally blank on the PX3 though without an actual signal.
