I did exactly the same thing, back in 2009. I was determined to come away from Dayton with something to replace the old IC-735 I had used for the last twenty years, that would be worthy of the six-band quad antenna I had just put up.
I was put off by the Flex, both for lack of QSK CW and SSB VOX, and made my choice Elecraft. I've NEVER been sorry.
