Can I humbly suggest looking at the excellent offerings from Hans Summers and qrp-labs. The QCX and the upcoming QSX fit the bill. The QCX i dare say, is hands down the best kit, with the exemplary documentation and support both from the community and Hans himself. It bests even Heathkit of yesterday, and may match performance you would expect from a K1.
