We use USB/serial adapters from startech https://www.newegg.com/startech-icusb234858i-usb-to-rs-232-422-485-serial/p/N82E16812399182
at work for our serial port needs. mostly because the ports enumerate in the same order every time, which is a huge bonus. they have smaller, cheaper versions as well as a more expensive version that tunnels serial over ethernet. Having hardware serial ports be the limiting factor when choosing a PC seems overly limiting to me.
