Ben,
You no longer have to worry about the KAT500 stopping the K3 power on. That was 
fixed in a 4.xx firmware update eons ago. If you have a 5.xx firmware version 
in your K3 you have nothing to worry about.
As far as I know there never was an issue with the KPA500. I never had any 
issues with my KPA500 and after loading the updated firmware no issue with my 
KAT500 either.

Is there an issue with the KPA500 being OFF with power up -> booting of the K3? 
 Does it need to be actually powered up, i.e. and in operational state?  OR is 
just having it in the “sleeping” state (REAR switch ON, FRONT PANEL SW-OFF) OK?

I know about KAT500 and AUX-BUSS stopping K3 bootup, and have an “automatic” 
solution that works great.
