Good Afternoon,

It got hot this week.  As the temperature rose to the mid 90s the humidity dropped from its summer normal of ~ 50% down to 20%. At the same time the wind rose from 5 mph to 25 mph.  I had never seen the fire danger sign increase by two steps in one day until this week.  Luckily the weather has turned for the Labor Day weekend.  A slow rain started an hour ago so the forest is a little safer.  The wind has also lessened in intensity, now all those folks going to the beach can have open fires.  But for Smokey the Bear's sake please be careful.

I got busy so this report is late.  The same rain which has lowered the fire danger has also forced me inside so I can write. With all the list discussion of antennas I will relate my tale of moving the same antenna from one tree to the next.  Previously the enclosed angle of the V was less than 150 degrees.  I was able to raise the center by a few feet and each end by about twenty feet. Now the interior angle is about 165 to 170 degrees.  Since propagation has been changing very slowly lately I can assume with some confidence that my flatter antenna radiates more strongly to the NE and SW.  Before, with the lower angled V, I had a more circular radiation pattern.  Now it is more consistent with that of a dipole.  On 40 meters this difference was less pronounced. But, then, the antenna is not 1 wavelength above the ground at that frequency.  I expect the wet trees from the current rain will change things for this weekend's nets.
