Hi Gordon,I have a KX2 s/n under 250. I'm not a hiker but I operate on the ocean beaches in WA state and up at Mt Rainier NP. In the field I use the AX1 ant on a camera tripod. Works very well. The only mod was the 2nd harmonic mod to the transmitter.
