Well as previously noted here, I participated in the ARRL Field Day event with the Flying Pigs QRP Club International from Caesar Creek State Park in Waynesville OH.
On Friday night, before the event started, Ivin W9ILF, Dan N8IE, and I hooked the KX1 up to a 135 foot dipole about 50 feet up in the trees and tried a few test calls. Ivin got the Colorado QRP Club on 20m early on in the evening, and spent a few minutes chewing the rag. I managed to tag W2LJ on 40m until the QSB and QRM completely wiped us out...then Dan N8IE moved back to 20m and bagged a guy in Asiatic Russia for the highlight of the night. Keep in mind this was with less than 2w of juice coming out of the KX1. The rest of the weekend was a blur of operating, eating, eating, operating, eating, eating, and operating, and sleeping and eating. Could NOT have asked for better WX. It was cool at night, and warm to hot during the day. We ran QRP all weekend, using a couple of K2's and a FT890 turned down, plus the FT817 GOTA station of G8IFF. Nigel came over from the UK to work Field Day with us this year. Very nice guy, and a great SSB operator. We even had a few QSO's on 6m SSB and 2m SSB under 5w. All in all, it was a blast...can't wait for next June. 73 _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [email protected] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
