These are N1MM + questions. The mode selection is in the N1MM / MMTTY configuration.
The hanging PTT is from multiple instances of PTT asserted. I had this problem with my IC-7610, but I had too many PTTs in the configuration. N1MM documentation should contain specific documentation for setup with any popular rig. That's the place to go.
