FYI. RS232 (and other serial link type) LEMP (Lightning Electro Magnetic Pulse) surge protectors are available from several vendors, and not that expensive, compared to the cost of a rig, or top range PC.
Often wonder why (other than expence) fibre optic links are not used. CAT & audio over a LAN or USB FO link? Would help general EMC issues too.
