This fault has been reported several times and usually turns out to be a problem in the KPA500 T/R switch area. I suggest you consult with [email protected] for guidance on how to proceed (fix it yourself or send it in for repair).

My KPA500 amp, (#2208 kit built), was acquired used but well cared for. It
has operated perfectly for several years until today. I was in QSO on 40M
when the amp threw a fault and the signal strength of received signals
dropped markedly. When I put the amp in standby, the signal strength of the
received signals returned to expected levels. I do get a TX power indication
appropriate to the drive level on keying up. This issue does not clear when
the power is cycled.
