Dave,
My Astatic Golden Eagle works great. I used a 9v battery in the base.
Never touched the mic element or volume control "slot". No bias needed
with the 9v Battery in use. IIRC I used 45 for mic gain and 18 for
compression or something close to that. Always got great audio reports.
I may yet switch back to that mic.
