Aah Dago! U S Marine Boot Camp 9Feb42 to 9Apr42 then to aviation detachment at North Island. After guard duty and mess cook, sent to airborne radio operator school at Texas A&M for four months, then to Miramar, and overseas to Okinawa then Guadalcanal.

The greatest thing about San Diego was the Nickel Snatcher ferry that ran form the Broadway Street Landing to North Island. Many a hilarious Saturday night was spent at the landing watching drunk sailors trying to catch the ferry. On almost every departure, sailors ran for the ferry, jumped, many ended up in the bay, and had to be fished out with landing hooks.

Memories, memories!

Thanks, Wayne. But, I spent Oct 1968-Jan 1969 there in Navy bootcamp. Just
hard to believe San Diego has anything to offer more fun than that! :-)
