You said you receive FT8 signals fine.  If that means you are decoding then 
time sync is not likely to be the cause of you problem.  If decoding ok your 
time error can be easily assessed by looking at the average time error of the 
signals you decode.  Almost any computer is capable of maintaining adequate 
time accuracy for short term FT8 operation if it is set within a second at the 
start of the operating session.   Many manage mobile operation with no time 
sync capability.  Some use a GPS receiver as a time source.

The most common problem for FT8 TX seems to be that the keying method is not 
compatible with the modulation signal source.   If data vox keying is available 
it is an easy way to bypass that problem.  No KX2 here so can't tell you how to 
configure for that rig but it should be easy to see if the KX2 is being 
modulated (no modulation = no power output).
