Maybe I'm missing something but what has all this to do with a total lack of any TX as well as RX from the K3?

More info is required. Mode, red TX light, power setting Hi/Lo, antenna selection.....

I wouldn't call it a free for all, rather a good contest. At times, I might see 100 signals on the P3/SVGA between 28,000 and 28,070 kHz, at other times as few as a half-dozen. Late morning here I often had 2-3 callers to a CQ.
