I've always viewed Heil products as vastly overpriced (like 5X) for what they are. Several years ago at a hamfest, I bought four different models of Plantronics headsets (earphone plus mic) designed for use with cellphones. I paid about $5 each; they sell in stores for about $20-$25. They are quite compact. I made adapters to connect them to several of my radios, and they work quite well -- very good audio reports on SSB, punchy, etc. I suggest that you do the same. All it takes is a properly wired plug, including a resistor to the mic to provide DC bias and a load. I also made an adapter to connect them to my computer's audio card for use on Echolink and VOIP, and they work fine in that application too.
