I thought I could refrain from adding to the Hubris but here goes: I took drafting in HS (early 60's) it was called drafting. Learned plan, projection, 3-D projection, etc. All done on paper and pencil with wood drafting board, T-Square and Triangles. Note the pencil was not mechanical and the hard part was to get consistent line width and weight.
In the university as a freshmen in engineering a required course was engineering fundamentals where one semester was devoted to mechanical drafting and lettering, another to nomograph and other visual presentation methods. As a still practicing civil and structural engineer (50+ years) I still at times hand sketch and letter design calculations. For certain tasks it, for me, is the most expedient method to produce the work. I have gone thru the ink on mylar, plastic lead on mylar, pencil on paper, autocad, microstation methods of preparing engineering drawings for construction and fabrication. Do I miss the old methods, not really, what I miss is the character and lettering style of old hand drawings, some of which I consider art.
