To all who emailed me with adding my straight key to my K2: Many thanks to you! Now I can use BOTH my straight key AND my paddles, and can actually go back and forth to them without any menu changes on the K2.
Thanks to those who steered me to the K2 Manual page for CW OPERATION (CAPS mine), and then read everything under KEYING DEVICE SELECTION. Under that I read EXTERNAL KEYING AUTO-DETECT. In MY manual that info was all on Page 92, but on others it may be on Page 95, or nearby. I added the two 1N4148 diodes to the dit and dah points on my paddles base, then tapped MENU, tapped BAND+ until I came to InP PdLn, then held EDIT until the underscore was under the PdLn, then tapped DISPLAY, and then set AdEt to ON, and then all was perfect from that moment on.
