My KPA-100 is finished and after a few trials and tribulations it appears to be working extremely well now. My initial transmissions were reported to be fuzzy and buzzy so after a few stressful nights I tried to figure out what was going on. I also had no PO control on SSB (CW was fine, and TUNE=20w was confirmed.) I had a few responses to this issue and RFC15 on the board was fine. The t-r diodes were fine and voltages around R12 were perfect (134.0v) Facing the prospect of having to throw the project into the hands of Elecraft, (I actually had the K2 and option boxed up and ready to post) I decided to once more opened the KPA-100 up and pulled it apart and did another final close inspection. The only thing that I noticed was a small capacitor at the rear of the PC board was very close (if not touching) the rear facia panel of the KPA-100. I moved it back with a plastic knife. I ran my soldering iron over all the diodes mentioned by Gary and Don. I also touched up some others joints that may have been critical (i.e. around torroids and IC's. I went through the final realignment procedures again and there wasn't much to do except a minor bias readjustment. I put the whole thing together again and bingo! Worked and get good audio reports. On 80 and 40mx it still seems to take some time for the PO control (ALC) to regulate the Power Out (30mx and above it is perfect) on SSB. But it's controllable now and working fine. I would like to thank Don Wilhelm and Gary Surrency for their extensive email assistance on this matter. In the face of dispair these guys kept the faith. Kind regards, Dave. ________________________________________________ Dodo - an Official Sponsor of the 2006 FORMULA 1 (tm) Foster's Australian Grand Prix _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [email protected] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
