The tape idea has another side to it, as a buyer I have a right to inspect my purchase to assure that I received what I paid for. An unscrupulous seller could attempt to use this in various ways for their own gain as well. At some point there has to be a modicum of trust between the parties. I've inquired about equipment in the past and sometimes there is just a vibe that tells me to move on. I've gotten some grief for doing so.
