If you're just going to use WSJT-X (or JTDX, which is what I use) for non-contest / casual operation on the main FT8 frequencies, I don't think using the split/fake-it option is necessary. Contesting is a different thing. To get started with casual use, just use the TX/RX split option on the main UI. I've also had mixed results using JDTX with a serial pairing emulator (I use Eterlogic, but have tried several) and Win4K3. It mostly works fine, but I have noticed that over time the TX/RX timing sequence starts to become "off"...I've only done light troubleshooting on this so far, but I know it's not a CPU horsepower problem. So when I'm doing JTDX, I usually just use the HRDLogbook host and leave Win4K3 shut down.
