Good advice. Sometimes, at least, updates can be effected with a board
swap. In my case something failed on the LPF board, but it was easy to swap.
One thing that I've run into is that unless you have trained the
autotuner across the full range of frequencies on each band, you can
encounter a kind of endless hunting for a match. I operate 98 percent
CW, and when I got into a phone contest I discovered that this would
happen at the far end of the phone band. The training is relatively
quick and easy, but don't be tempted to leave out any of the frequency
slots when you do it. Once it's done, it's like having a 1500-watt
transceiver.

One word of advice if buying a used amp, contact service with serial number and
ensure it has latest updates. There were some updates along the way that make
the amp more reliable, including additional protection for the LDMOS devices.
My amp went back for updates and has been trouble free since.
I Had high reflected errors when running exciter power only which turned out to
be issue on frequency detection on filter board.
Renee at Elecraft service waved his magic wand and also applied other updates
and it is now running great!
