FALSE! Impedance matching has not been practiced in audio for at least
60 years -- it dates to the days of vacuum tube output stages. There's
nothing wrong with using 2 ohm speakers with gear rated 4-8 ohms --
indeed, they will play a bit louder for the same volume setting!
There is usually a marking on the magnet face indicating the impedance.
While I've modified several 2-ohm units to a higher impedance, it's more
fun to watch the expression of the flea-market guys as you pull out a
Phillips screwdriver and open case after case looking for 4 and 8 ohm ones.
All of this is totally un-necessary.
