I can see this has really drifted off topic.

MY first phone radio (1960) was a WWII surplus ARC-1 that a ham friend modified to 144-MHz for AM. Ran 20w with 820's. The hand mic was certainly a carbon mic.

First mic I bought for ham radio, I splurged and got an EV-664 Cardioid dynmaic. It was all metal and designed for a metal tube base mount. Sure put out sweet AM in 1966 with my Johnson 6N2 running 150w on 2m.

For my FT-847 (bought in 1998) I got a Heil HM-10. Still use it with my K3 (SN4043) bought in 2010.

"and that is the rest of the story"!
