Good advice, especially the caution on the keying current of older amps! Also notice that Jim did not say to connect the ALC, just watch your K3 drive level.

Study the manuals for both units. For all the amps I've used (three different Ten Tecs, an ACOM, both KPAs), Key Out from the K3 to Key In for the amp was all I needed, but it depends on the positive/negative logic of the amp. In a well-designed amp, the Key Input will drive a transistor, so very little current. You may also need to set a longer delay in the K3 do allow for the amp's T/R relay(s) to pull in. I remember a longer setting being required for an Ameritron I encountered at a contest multi, but that was from an FT1000MP. There's a menu setting. 73, Jim K9YC ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [email protected]
