Another way to achieve 12V from an internal battery in the KX1 would be to
re-wire the two 3-cell holders so that they are in parallel rather than in
series & then install six of these:

Then you would have a rechargeable 12V 1500 mAh battery without having to
carry a seperate add-on pack.
