*** I have two little testers.  One has every known USB connector
around its perimeter. And LEDs for every wire. So it can tell you which
wires this particular cable has.

The other one can connect to a usb socket and tell you what voltage it's putting out. It can also go between a USB and its load and tell you what's the voltage, what's the current. It even has an oscilloscope screen to show you
the crud on the power.  And for the more advanced modes, it can find out
what modes that wall wart supports, and even manually enter commands to it.
