I can't help with the tech questions but can address the hooky issue. Do what I did, become mildly sick. Sick enough that you really truly don't feel good enough to go to work but well enough that you can sit and watch TV all day. You'll find that sitting and watching TV is as restful as sitting and soldering parts. Just when you feel guilty about all the time you are getting to spend on the rig, stand up and walk around the room. The illness will quickly remind you that you're to sick to go anywhere so you can sit down and continue the kit!
