Mark, if you have an iPhone 14 or later (capable of Satellite "SOS" texting),
check out https://www.offlinespotter.com/ It's an easy to use POTA, SOTA, and
WWFF spotting app that utilizes the Satellite texting capability of the iPhone.
As long as you have a clear view of the sky, the app will guide you in aiming
your phone. Sites are pre-loaded, and you don't have to worry about any syntax
or anything, it's all menu driven. I've used it a few times when "off-grid"
and it works great!

Standard disclaimer: I have no interest in the app other than being a user of
it.

Ken, KJ9B

Subject: [Elecraft] Effective ways to introduce amateur radio to newcomers?

I'll be hiking the Teton Crest Trail next week, doing POTA activations
along the way. As cell coverage will be non-existent, I will be
relying on amateur radio (and my KX2) to stay in touch with the
outside world. I expect that this will attract interest from other
backpackers, so I have my sales pitch ready. ;-)
