Just finished my shift as net controller on the Maritime Mobile Service Net
(14.300) with SSNR set at a conservative 7 in very trying atmospherically noisy
conditions (a G1 class storm.) Before SSNR I would practically wear out my ears
listening for weak stations with constant S2-S3 noise but this hour was the
easiest I’ve ever had in the two years I’ve been doing my weekly shift. I was
concerned I would miss hearing some marginal signals but apparently not, had
three or four mobiles check in on their way home from Dayton (it’s easier to
spell.) Stronger signals sounded like full quieting on a local repeater. Well
done Elecraft team!
