When a KPA100 is installed in a K2, there is no space for the ATU. But it also doesn’t make sense to use that ATU since it will only handle 20 watts and would be destroyed by the 100 watts of the KPA100. A number of customers acquired the external cabinet (EC2 was it?) and mounted the KPA100 and KAT100 in it. In this case the ATU could stay in the K2’s enclosure for use when it was disconnected from the KPA/KAT.
The K2 enclosure has room for two items - the ATU and a small lead-acid battery, which recharged when the K2 was plugged in to 12V power. My K2 has every option we made, although the battery has long ago expired and been removed. It is a really good little radio, and a lot of fun to build and holds a prominent place on my desk. Still, I far prefer my K3s for their performance. Unfortunately many of the K2 options have been discontinued since components are no longer available.
