I have no advice concerning the KX1, as I don't own one, although I did get to see one for the first time at a hamfest this past weekend. Nice looking rig.
Anyway, I wish you a good time at Philmont Scout Ranch. I had the opportunity to go there about 12 years ago during my scouting days. Had the time of my life, and has many good memories for me. It should be fun having the radio with you, and having some contact with the outside world. Enjoy yourself.
