I am in the process of putting together the Elecraft KX1. I have done a few kits before (SWL rigs etc.)but would not be considered a great builder. I have been working on the kit as time permits for the past week....and I have to say that so far it is going great. The Elecraft directions are awesome and I am forcing myself to go slow and check everything. It turns out that this is a more enjoyable way than trying to "get it built" ASAP.
I just finished the Assembly Part II and the testing. It looks like it went just fine and I am picking up some great signals. This thing sounds great to my ear. I almost hate to unplug it and start building again...I want to listen! This may be an obvious question..but when I am doing the testing, in particular the resistance tests I would like some assurance. The tests that require results less than 5 ohms etc. are fine. When I am testing U6 and pins 1, 2 & 7 for greater than 10K, I get a reading of "infinite" on my DMM for pins 1 & 2 and then about 22.7K for pin 7. Is it OK that 1 & 2 are infinite rather than providing a reading? I saw this same sort of result on some other checks too. I know that infinite is larger than 10K....just not sure that is the reading I should get here. Any advice would be appreciated. It is a gorgeous day here and I am supposed to be outside doing yardwork. It's just gonna have to wait....I am going to keep on building this rig. 73 de Keith KB3ILS _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [email protected] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
