Some of these protective cases are exceedingly good but the plastic versions have hinges and lip around periphery that extend the size considerably. Although they are made of structural foam, they add quite a bit to the weight of a basic K2, even the K2/100. I use a large sandwich/food box and tuck headphones, key, antenna bits, tools and a little bubble wrap around to fill it out. This then can be carried in a small, lightweight hold-all bag surrounded by clothes, food, bottled water or whatever the need for the portable operation. You can waste a lot of volume with cut-out foam padding inside these cases. It looks nice and tidy and everything has its place which is good for, say emergency exercises but is not space-efficient.

I'm similarly interested in cases for a K1. Big enough to protect it, but otherwise as small as possible. Thanks for any recommendations!
