My K2 has got SSB, the I/O module and the data cable. So to get myself familiar with digital modes I conected the K2 to a laptop and started experimenting with HRD as a starting point. I found HRD to be a beautifully designed software. Just incredible. I can't wait to try it on my Yaesu FT-857 which has got everything behind some obscure menus hidden somewhere. HRD will provide a magnificient interface for the 857.
As for the K2, because HRD can control the TX, I was assuming I could hook up an inexpensive headphones+mike set to the computer and that the computer would/could provide enough pre-amplification to run the K2 from the set, saving me the trouble of having to build a special interface box in between. However, as things turned out, I could neither run the mike from the computer nor get the audio into the headset, unless I plug it into K2 direct. Am I wrong in this assumption or is there a way to do it? The second question relates to PSK31. I tried listening to PSK31 on various frequencies, especially around the default "favourites" in HRD to get myself familiar with what it looks like and even tried sending a CQ message to give it a try but could not hear any signal. I was presuming that there was noone doing PSK31 at that specific moment but then I had this idea that perhaps I needed something more than the simple K2 data cable to run in between the computer and the rig. Am I right in that assumption? 73! de TA2RX ---------------------------------- Bekir Kemal Ataman ArchiMac BBS Sysop & Webmaster <http://www.archimac.org/> _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [email protected] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
