Hi Hank,

Look at the Errata for your module. I always incorporate the errata into the manual before I start building, just to make sure I don't miss anything. If you didn't get the errata you can download it from Elecraft's website.

In any case, it states that you don't need to do the first three steps of alignment as per page 9 if you have a K2 with firmware older than V2.00. Proceed with the rest of the calibrations and you should be all set. I am not sure if your CAL PLL on 40m is now screwed up so you may want to check that, but I would think that if it gave an error it didn't overwrite anything so you should still be okay. Worst case, you may have to go back to recal the PLL at 40m.

Hurry up and get on 160m to join us on the Stew Perry DX Challenge! One of the best QRP 160m contests of the season! See:

My construction of the K2 is progressing, SSB and noise limiter are installed and I installed the 160 M module this afternoon. Just after sunset the 160 meter band was full of activity.
I have a concern about the 160 meter alignment.
Manual page 9. step 2. Set VFO for 1800.10 kHz
Select CAL PLL, hold EDIT a second time, takes about 2 minutes to see END.

I did the above procedure but did not get END. All that happened when I held EDIT was the disappearance of the "annunciators" which were at A B RIT and XIT. When I let go of the EDIT after about 2 1/2 minutes I had a short indication on the LCD with: 07093.52 and right after that the message: Info 232.

Looking in the K2 manual "info 232" states CAL PLL on wrong band. INFO 232 is most likely displayed when using CAL PLL without first selecting 40 meters.

Does all of the above mean that I first have to select 40 meters before doing 160 meters. The instruction manual for the K160RX does not mention 40 meters CAL PLL???? Also what is the meaning of 07093.52 , which briefly flashed on the LCD, It really was brief it took me 3 tries to get the number correctly.

Any help would be appreciated. Wishing everyone a Happy New Years. Hank WA9QJH
