Hi Scott,
Both HM36 and HM12 work well with my K2. In fact, KSB2 is very
accommodating. It also works well with most Kenwood mics like MC43s. I
have recently bought an Azden mic (dynamic moving coil, made in Japan). The
mic only costs me US$20 but works very well with my K2 as well.
Therefore, I believe it is not demanding for microphone requirement in K2.

I see a lot of discussion on the reflector about microphones for the
K2. I have the sideband adapter for my K2, but haven't built it yet.
Since I actually use a mic about once every five to ten years, I
hesitate to spend a lot of money for one. I have two extra Icom
mics. Will they work ok with the K2? I don't need the best audio
since it will probably never be used anyway.
