I have had a Hakko 936 for about a year, based on Tom's website
recommendation, and have been very happy with it. At the recommendation
of Jack, K8ZOA, I just bought and received a 950 tweezers to use with my
936 station in order to make removal of a couple bad TSSOP-14 chips
easier. It worked like a champ. I removed the chips, cleaned up with
solder wick, and installed new chips without a hitch. I was also able to
remove a good chip from an old prototype board and reinstall on a new
one. I didn't like the tweezers for installing the fine pitch parts,
since they hide the pads, and the chip might slip out while adjusting
position.
I want to try a hot air rework station, but they're awfully expensive.
This brand was recommended to me by Van, W1WCG, as a reasonably priced
option...

The price of the ML-853K looks real good... and it should be good for
both removal and installation.

At Bob's (K7HBG) recommendation, I bought two 936's (one with the
standard hand piece and one with the "micro" hand piece) and a tweezer
smd removal hand piece. I've been very pleased with them. Much nicer
than my old Weller soldering station.
And, I had a phone call from a nice young lady at Hakko asking if I
was satisfied with the 936 I purchased.
