Take a look at http://radio.linux.org.au/ for a listing of ham radio related 
software for the Linux operating systems.

Also, I have found that the Debian distribution offers superb ham radio 
support. Debian itself, I would not recommend to a new Linux user, but some 
of it's derivatives are excellent, such as Mepis, and Ubuntu.
