I really don't *need* that much radio, but I'll end up getting one
anyway. If for no other reason, just so I can write some Mac control
software for it.

Similar story here, except my software is Windows-based. With the K3's ability to accept firmware updates and the feedback from Wayne that the CAT set will grow the only way I will be able to properly support the K3 is if I own one myself, sending executables back-and-forth is maddening. I'll buy the kit - I have some screwdrivers, reading glasses and nice bright table lamps.

I was very lucky with the K2 - my friend Peter PH1PH (now SK) owned a K2 so there was no problem getting the support in place.

Later today there will be about $3,000 heading to Elecraft courtesy of my credit card. I don't mind paying this - in one day I have had more feedback from the developers of the K3 than I have ever had from ICOM Kenwood and Yaesu combined.

The most crucial future component is the panoramic display - no-one has made this data available via CAT commands (I am excluding Flex Radio's SDR-x000 for now). Once this data is available the K3 will surpass the IC-7800 I used to own. I see this as being essential for the K3 to become the top traditional (not SDR) Ham radio in every respect.

The K3 could be a hot topic for the RSGB HF Convention in October.
