I attended TDIJ, in Plano TX, but it’s hardly FDIM.

I did get to touch and feel the K3 and learnt some things that I had not realized before, after lots of questions to Eric. I also went to his presentation of High Performance Radio Design, where he described the design approaches behind the K3. He quoted several performance figures that puts the technical performance of the K3 an order of magnitude above the K2 and several other high end radios, while still keeping the reputation of the K2’s excellent performance intact.

So I signed up, and a K3 is in the works for me. Mine will be the “kit” version with 100W/ATU/400 Hz filter options, probably delivered in the October time frame. There was a steady stream of questioners for the K3 and to the question of how many were sold at Hamcom Eric kept the Elecraft position intact with the answer of – “a hand full”. I guess it depends on how many paper orders you can hold in one hand.

All the big radio manufactures were present and I had a chance to see the Tec Tec Orion close up - that is one big box. No carrying that bad boy around with one hand. Incidentally the K3 has feet on the opposite side to the handle. I personally will keep my K2 for field ops.

OT, one other product that impressed me was the new (to me) MFJ telescoping fiber glass pole. They have 33 ft and 43 ft versions with 1/8 inch wall thickness and plastic clamps to secure the sliding joints. Impressive but pretty expensive.
