Welcome to the low bands! I'd like to encourage you to try 30 meters.
It has several advantages over other bands: Since contest activity is not
allowed you will not be up against many multi-element beams and KW+
competitors. 100W with a dipole will give you an average or better signal.
And don't overlook the reasonable size of a 30 meter dipole and the fact
that putting it at 30 ft or higher gives you a respectable radiation angle
and opportunity for some juicy DX contacts.
All the bands have something to offer, but I think that 30 has the most
advantages and the best probability of success for a beginner.
