Another feature, not well known nor advertised, is that their (TE Systems) amps have "active bias". This greatly improves their linearity and cuts down on local splatter. Many of the existing solid state amps do not have any sort of stabilized bias which is why so many of them on 6, 2 and 432 sound so bad. 73, Dick, K5AND

It runs cool without a fan at CW/SSB duty cycles, and will handle key-down carrier modes with the addition of a fan on top of the heatsink. Love mine... For those with no familiarity with TE Systems, I gather that they do a lot of military contracts and do the ham stuff as kind of a sideline. (Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.) They don't advertise, they have no website, and vendors purporting to be distributors for them typically have no actual stock, so you might as well order direct from TE. Their phone number is (310) 478.0591. They do advertise in QST every now and then. The chances of finding a used for sale on the ham market are slim. People tend not to sell them once they get them. I looked for a used one for a month before giving up and ordering a new one. I recently picked up a 400W 2M TE Systems amp on eBay for a reasonable price, so don't give up too quickly. But they're not common. I'm not really happy with high-current low (13.8V) voltage devices, but.... 73, doug _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [email protected] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
