I don't understand the stress factor here. The bands are in such dreadful shape (at least from here in Germany) that you can turn on your radio (mine are an FT-1000MP MkV and a K2) and you think the receivers are dead.
I have a friend who has a Yaesu and Kenwood dealership, and he says guys bring in their radios all the time because they think the thing is dead on receive. He says he can't even demonstrate most days and he has a real antenna farm. About the only band that is somewhat usable from here is the 40m band.
