The only thing that bugs me is it looks from the pictures like
the K3 uses the same (no fidelity) speaker as the K2.
This is a different speaker. But both the K2 speaker and the K3's are
rated at 5 watts, are extremely sensitive (95 dB SPL), and have large
magnets (shielded in the K3). No other internal speaker would perform
better in this application -- I evaluated about a dozen of them.
Acoustics, amplifier characteristics, and filter bandwidths all
contribute to the sound. In the case of the K3, the enclosure is
larger, there's a new amplifier IC with very low distortion, 8-band
receive EQ, and a much wider range of IF and DSP bandwidths.
We also plan to offer an external, front-facing speaker in the future,
possibly with an optional power supply.
